The true-life quest of a terminally-ill ten-year-old boy who longs to capture the most beautiful butterfly on the planet comes to life on the screen in a touching drama directed by Léa Pool and starring Academy Award-winner William Hurt. In order to appreciate life to its fullest, an ageing entomologist learns that sometimes all you have to do is come out of your cocoon. When the young boy’s mother convinces the renowned insect-expert to accompany her son on the journey of a lifetime, the courage that the terminally-ill child shows in realizing his dream inspires a man who has lived his entire life in a lab to get outside, connect with his fellow man, and experience the wonder of nature firsthand. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Rev. Ali’s talk ~ Spiritual Principles & Practices ~ tsc66

At the beginning of each year In Science of Mind centers, we touch base with the foundations of the Science of Mind, because of this our theme for January has been Universal spiritual principles.

Today I decided to wrap up the month of January, touching on all the things we’ve talked about over this month.

Today we will talk about five principles from the core teaching of Satya, and The New Thought Movement. These spiritual principles and practices Reflect the perennial wisdom of the ages. These principles are found at the heart of all the world’s spiritual traditions. When embodied and integrated into our daily life they are a pathway to self-realization, a conscious state of oneness.

I feel that these principles will apply to your life. These principles and practices can help you to have a profound awakening to the truth of your being.

Principal

So what is a principal ? A principal is a basic truth or law which has been proved infallible and impersonal. There are physical principles known to all of us and we use them and we depend on them. we know that these physical principles are real. the law of gravity for example. we don’t see it, where is the law of gravity, how does the law of gravity works. You know it just always works. It is not like the law of gravity works for some and not for others. the law of gravity is a  impersonal. and impartial law.

These principles and practices came from AGAPE INTERNATIONAL SPIRITUAL CENTER.

Spiritual Principles

1 – God is Good, therefore Life is Good. Absolute goodness is the substance, the source and the supply of all existence. This aspect of the Godhead is always in integrity with itself, which means that it cannot contradict its own laws, nature, and relationship to its creation.

2 – God is omnipresent, omniscient, omnipotent and omniactive. All Existence is the manifest form and activity of Spirit. -This Presence is equally present in all space, time, places and in all persons, as well as beyond time, space, and manifest creation. Ours is a holographic Universe in which every part—that which is seen and that which is unseen—is an emanation of the unmanifest whole.

3 – Every person is an individualized expression of God. Every person is made in the image and likeness of God and is capable of awakening to this realization and giving expression to the qualities of unconditional love, compassion, wisdom, bliss, peace and creativity.

4 – Every person is responsible for their own evolution. Every individual has been given the power of free choice and is therefore self-responsible for their evolution following a path suited to their individual state of evolving consciousness.

5 – The Universe, being infinite, is in a constant state of evolutionary expansion. We live in a non-static, ever-evolving Universe, which is the source of our individual evolutionary impulse and capacity to expand into our fullest potential.

Spiritual Practices

1 – Meditation. In meditation practice the practitioner pays un-distractible attention to Reality. All meditation techniques share a common purpose: to awaken awareness, another word for self-realization. Meditation stills the mind, increases the capacity to intuitively receive the guidance of Spirit, and opens the heart’s desire to serve as a beneficial presence on the planet.

2 – Affirmative Prayer. Affirmative prayer grounds the practitioner in a solid awareness of oneness with Spirit. The power of affirmative prayer sets in motion a process of healing false beliefs that prevents an individual from fully realizing their spiritual inheritance. Prayer is an intimate communion with the Spirit in the language of one’s own heart.

3 –  Visioning.  Visioning, is an intuitive process for opening and sensitizing consciousness to receive the Spirit’s vision for one’s life which is one of wholeness, joy, prosperity creativity and generosity of heart. Visioning is applicable to all aspects of life—spiritual, professional, relational, communal and financial.

4 – Sacred Service. Service is meditation in action. As the realization of oneness with all beings is awakened, an organic, natural desire arises to be of service in such a way that nothing is asked in return because serving is its own blessing. Being of service is a freewill offering to the One that has become the all.

5 – Spiritual Study. At every stage of growth and development on the spiritual path it is important to maintain a “beginner’s mind.” Remaining teachable acknowledges that spiritual truth is limitless, so there is always the opportunity to rise to a more profound level of understanding, wisdom and practice through spiritual study.

6 – Spiritual Community. Committed participation in a spiritual community accelerates our spiritual evolution. When individuals gather together to meditate and pray, their united consciousness contributes to the spiritual progress of each individual. The community also offers the opportunity to cultivate patience, humility, compassion and selflessness. When we need encouragement on the path, the community is there to hold the high watch for us.

7 – Tithing. As we mature in our understanding of the law of circulation, it becomes obvious that the sharing of our financial resources, our talents and skills is at the heart of tithing. And, in grateful recognition of the teachings and teachers who have been and are our spiritual benefactors, we tithe to them to support the dissemination of their teaching and mission.

Rev.Lyle’s talk ~ Everything Is Connected ~ tsc65

everything is connected

Well happy 2014. The Dawning of a New Age … isn’t that is what we said last year.

Did you feel it?

Have you noticed a difference?

I have to think about it … but, yes I did.

Last year we saw, not the end of the world … but, I believe … the beginning of a new age.

In my opinion … 2013 was significant because we saw … in part … the global awareness of a blossoming Spirituality. A shift from group adherence based on history or culture … to individual awareness of personal wants and needs. We saw how connected … and affected we are by people on the other side of the world.

We saw people gathering in the streets of Libia.

We see a shift from strict religious creed to personal Spirituality.

We can see it in the Spiritual growth around the world … we see a new Pope guiding the Catholic presence to an awareness of … self choice. Remember him saying …”Who am I to judge another?”

I found that … very revealing.

Ernest Holmes always said that “Religious Science and Science of Mind”  was more about what you do and how you act in the world … than being a Religion.

This shift that is taking place all over the world … is about an awareness of our “Connectedness” … to something special … Not New … but, just not seen before.

I remembered a movie … and in it, an angry vindictive man (let’s call him Joe) received a life lesson from a young boy. The man was a shock jock. Know what that is?

A DJ on the radio that likes to shock people with his words and his ideas. And, he felt that ratings were most important … and that he got the best ratings by yelling, and being angry, and belittling others. He would rant and rave, and make a huge fuss in his … well, his fear of not being good enough.

One day for promotional reasons Joe visited a young man who was very ill, and had made a special request of the radio personality.

The young man shared that Joe touched many people over the air waves, and his request was that Joe should be kind and forgiving for one day.

The young boy said that what Joe did made a difference in ways he could not imagine.

On his next show, he was hosting a football player who had fallen on hard times and was struggling. Joe was kind and forgiving and said everyone should give him a second chance. The next day the football player had a great game … and his life was changed – shifted. And from that day forward when Joe was about to make a decision or Do something that would in fact affect other people … he would see the boy holding up a sign

everything is connected

And he starts becoming aware of things happening around him as a direct result of things he said or did.

First thing I thought … was, Wow … on TV. They are talking Science of Mind stuff.

Everything is connected?? Really???

Your words, your actions, your thoughts are connected to the ONE … because the Source of All things … is connected to you. How could it not be.

And, not just emotionally (you said something that hurt my feelings) … but, physically. Physically connected to everything. Trees, planets … other people.

Remember my talking about molecular structure?
And what you do – hurts or helps – me.

It is easy to see that what you do in your home … Moving a chair or telling someone you love them.

A little harder to see that it somehow affects your neighbor. And harder still to see that it affects someone in Afghanistan. But I believe it does. And if you read the third chapter of the SOM Text … it tells you the same thing. There is a Mind/Body connection, within yourself … and between us.

In The Science of Mind text It says

“For it is true that we are immersed in an Infinite Intelligence that knows all things.”

Holmes is talking about Source, God , Spirit, the One.

The intelligence that makes a flower grow, or tells a bird when and where to fly south, or manifests as you and me.

“It is also true that this Intelligence can acquaint us with IT’s ideas as we are able and willing to receive them.”

And do you think the Divine Intelligence Only flows to you … that all Universal Intelligence flows in a straight line only to you.
I think not. The way I see it … It is more like … Omni-Present. It touches all people … all the time.
I believe that when you have a thought … that energy … that vibration is instantly and automatically expressed out and made available to everyone and everything.

Now … the movie pointed out to me – that this message …

everything is connected

… is not just Religious Science (not just Satya) … it is becoming main stream … they are putting it in movies and commercials. You are what you eat … you are what you think. Mind / Body connections. The TV show, Big Bang Theory, says Science is talking about string theory … know what that says …

everything is connected

Now in the movie, Joe starts feeling connected. He starts acting responsibly, because he in good conscience now can’t tell someone something that is hurtful and would damage them.

It has a happy ending because he saves his family, his ratings surpassed what he had before and he has a great influence over the people in his city … and he is a great light.

In Life …

People are becoming aware that they matter, and that they can make a difference in their own lives … and others.
That is what Spirituality is versus Religion.
Spirituality is about your own Divine self.

Seeing it … knowing it … and transforming into it.

Finding out who you are … inside. Your True self. And living from there.
I know we think we know who we are. But sometimes we only know what other people tell us.

Again a reference to my last talk and the deck of cards.

A detective/mystery book I am reading (James Patterson) wrote something that sounded an awful lot like Science of Mind …

“keep doing what you always do – keep getting what you always get”.

Change your thinking, change your life

Now, Last year …

didn’t we witness people all over the world making choices for themselves. Didn’t we see that certain countries made radical changes.

I think sometimes changes are painful … I can’t deny that. But sometimes it is necessary. If something is not working for you … if it is not supporting you … you must change or continue to repeat it … choice is yours.

I might guess that a long time ago a man named Jesus … and a man called Siddhartha or Buddha, or Lao Tzu all saw a Oneness … a connectedness.

People like Thomas Troward, Ralph Waldo Emerson or Ernest Holmes wrote about it.

Now … I think hundreds of thousands of people, like us, are seeing new possibilities for ourselves … and our world.
Something we do here almost every January …

is we incorporate into our messages the first four chapters of the Science of Mind text.

  • What It Is.
  • How It Works
  • What It Does
  • How To Use IT.

Two weeks ago I talked about The Thing itself:

First Cause

There is a Universal Mind, Spirit, Intelligence … that is the origin of all things

  • The Absolute
  • First Cause
  • Conscious Mind
  • Spirit
  • The Great I AM
  • Universal Energy
  • Divine Intelligence
  • God

Then Rev. Ali talked about The Way It Works:

That Spirit, finds conscious and individualized centers of expression through … us … functioning at the level of our concept – of it.

  • There is One life in back of all that lives.
  • There is one Energy in back of all things that are energized.
  • There is one Spirit in back of all expression.
  • We are It’s outlet. Source flows through us to expression.

In Him we live and move and have our Being.

Acts 17:28

We are in Spirit … Spirit is in us. It is all connected.

I guess now I can talk about …

What It Does. In chapter three of the Science of Mind text.

What this Divine Intelligence does.

We can’t see it … touch it … or taste it.

So how do we know … IT … even exists??

I think it is that divine urge we have all felt

  • that there is more
  • that I have desires yet to be fulfilled

Questions … who am I … why am I here

  • how can I get better
  • how can I grow
  • who do I ask
  • how do I ask
  • are we alone
  • is there more

What I know is that Divine Intelligence imparts its great knowledge to us …
When we are able … and willing, to receive.

So … What IT does … is truly revealed to you when you open your heart and your mind to receive.
I can speak words … it is up to you to hear them.

There are Natural … Divine … Mechanical Universal Laws (like gravity) … and they are set and immutable. And we are able to use them.

Life has 2 fundamental characteristics …

Spirit (or Love) and Law.

Love points the way … and Law makes it possible.

And Spirit finds external existence in reality … in manifest form … in the cosmos … in us.

Electricity existed 2000 years ago, but 120 years ago some scientist’s mind discovered a law … a principle, and made it real.

This is the way of Love too.

In the parable in the bible they talk about planting the seeds in the soil. They are talking about planting ideas in the mind and watching them grow. You throw a seed (a thought) on hard ground … it doesn’t even take … said another way … it is not even heard. But in rich accepting soil the seed/idea will grow and flourish.

In the physical world you can see it. You can see the apple seed grow into an apple tree.

Now, you may not see it the same … but, it works on the Spiritual and Mental side too. The Law works on thoughts too … the same as on the seed.

If you plant a seed of Love … do you know what you are going to get back …? Love. Peace gets peace. Joy gets joy.

Have you never noticed when you are mad and angry … a lot more anger appears in your life.
But, it is like any science … you can prove it through experimentation. Personally … I would start with the Love experiment first.

The Mind is a very powerful thing.

Ernest and others say …

  • Thoughts are things.
  • Change your thinking … change your life.

The trick is that sometimes we are not aware of our true selves.

We think … I want Love, give me Love. But what is … True … is that deep inside we think “I am not worthy, I am not loveable”.

And the universe/Spirit will say yes … and jump in to show all the ways we “think” we are not lovable.

Just be aware.

Some of the reasons why I started with Science of Mind  and classes was to find out …

  • Who am I really.
  • What are my beliefs.
  • What are my true standards.
  • Why do I act the way I act
  • do what I do.
  • And where is God in all of this?

Now / we are surrounded by “Perfect Life”. Complete, normal, happy, sane, harmonious and peaceful.
But … only as much as we can embody can become ours to use.

It is Law … it is immutable … it is mechanical.

Our thought and conscious receptivity differentiate the Universal Possibility by drawing IT through our individual minds causing it to flow in particular channels. One state of consciousness will differentiate one kind of result as another will create a different manifestation.

The Law says yes … only we put limits and conditions on it. Each consciousness taps the same Source yet each individual receives what they alone are looking for … according to their ability to embody.

Life always becomes to us the particular thing we need. The understanding of this and the use of this … Law, is always simple but rarely easy.

That was what Emerson called “Unity passing into variety”. It all comes from the One Source … but is manifest in many forms, and personal expression.

What It Does … Principle number One … We are surrounded by Infinite Possibility. It is Goodness, Life Law and Reason … and it is expressing through us.

And since it passes through our consciousness to operate for us, we must be conscious of IT.
And if you wish to demonstrate good in your life, you must be conscious of good if you wish to experience it.

And this is not hocus pocus. This is understanding and working with the Laws. If you drop an object it will fall. If you are truly loving, you will experience Love.

This Science of Mind stuff isn’t magic … it is Life.

And this prayer work we do … this treatment work we do … it is making a clear statement into the Law … embodying the concrete idea of a desire, accompanied by a Faith that the Law works.

Without conditions … without judgments … without expectations … and without fear.

In the back of the sanctuary we have a prayer treatment box … USE it.

And remember also … it is Life … not magic. We don’t create something out of nothing. We create out of what is, out of the energy that exists.

We create an atmosphere of attraction and draw the right person at the right time … the right situation or circumstance … we create the mold … and God … fills it.

The field through which thought operates is INFINITE … therefore there can be no limit to our thoughts or manifestations.
That is the Nature of Life.

We are surrounded by an Infinite Good.

How much of this good is ours?

All of IT.

How much of it can we use?

As much as we can embody … Because that is

WHAT IT DOES

AND SO THE LESSON BEGINS

We believe in God, the living Spirit Almighty; one, indestructible, absolute, and self-existent Cause. This One manifests Itself in and through all creation, but is not absorbed by Its creation. The manifest universe is the body of God; it is the logical and necessary outcome of the infinite self-knowingness of God.”

The Blue Butterfly

Rev. Lyles talk ~ First Cause ~ tsc63

Today Rev. Lyle’s talk First Cause, Knowing of its existence, Knowing how it works What it does And how to use it

Happy New Year

How was your 2013?

Was it all you hoped and planned for?

Maybe you got more than you planned for?

Maybe you got exactly what you wanted.

and maybe you got exactly what you needed.

I was wondering … what kind of person am I, what kind of person are you?

Are you a focused planner … that does visualizations and makes milestone charts.

Figuring out what you want … and scheduling its perfect unfoldment.

Laying it all out in order … just how it … should … happen.

Making a list and checking it twice.

OR

Are you the kind of person that simply hopes for the best.

Let it come what may.

It’s not up to you … it’s out of your hands.

OR

The type that just plows ahead no matter what.

Keep your nose to the grind stone.

To get what you want … you have to work hard.

Money doesn’t grow on trees ya know.

No one is going to give you something for nothing.

I would guess … we are all some combination of all those.

We make plans

We have goals

We meditate and visualize

Sometimes we just do what needs doing

And still … Life happens

And since you are here … and most of you have been here many times … you have heard me say things like:

This is a reciprocal universe … you tend to get what you give

You like what you have … keep doing what you are doing

If you don’t … change your thinking – change your life

Be the change you want to see

You want to see more Love in the world … be more loving

And when Life gives you heart ache and pain … exactly how Do you respond.

Let me tell you a story some of you may have heard me tell before.

There once was a man who lived in a small village with his wife and 2 children. He was a hard man and a hard-working man. He had his own business … but it had not been doing well for some time. He argued with his wife constantly. He brow beat his son … and his son was threatening to leave home. He insulted his daughter … and had lost her love. He didn’t know what to do.

He knew of a wise man who lived in the next village down the road – so he planned a day trip to go visit him and ask for advice. One morning he arose early and started walking … he didn’t even own a mule. The walk was many miles and when he arrived in the town court-yard where the wise man lived … he paused to rest.

But when he sat and laid his head back for a moment … he fell into a deep sleep … and he dreamt. He dreamt he was lying in this very court-yard and he saw a wagon coming from the West. When it arrived … angels dressed in black started getting off the wagon and stepped on to a large-scale in the middle of the courtyard. They represented all of the mean and cruel and inconsiderate things he had done in his life. Yelling at his wife … being unkind to his daughter … chasing his son away … cheating a customer he was doing business with … being angry … expressing fear, jealousy, worry, hate, vengeance, upset, greed, lust, self-righteousness, arrogance…

And the scale tipped heavily to one side.

Then a wagon came from the East … and from it came angels all dressed in white. And they represented all the good things he had done in his life.

When he had actually praised his daughter … or thanked his son … or told his wife that he loved her. or had been a good neighbor and friend.

But the scales were still very heavily weighed down by the black clad angels.

Ten from the North came another wagon. From this wagon came angels all dressed in grey. They represented all the pain and suffering he had endured in his life. And each of these angels led one of the angels dressed in black away from the scale.

But still, the scale was tipped to the dark side.

With this he awoke with a start and a tear in his eye, he knew what he needed …

And he stood and he prayed to God … God please

Please send more pain and suffering.

How do you respond to Life.

Do you act in anger … or suffer along … or do you build from a base of kindness and Love.

Where do you go First. What are you Really asking for.

And if you think you are asking for the right things … why are you still not getting them.

Actually there are many answers to that question.

And I think that with this month being about “Universal Spiritual Principles” we will, as a matter of course answer some of those questions.

A couple of quick answers might be:

One – the ego. Although I believe the ego’s main purpose is to protect you … it can isolate you from growth and change.

Two – as to why you don’t get what you want … do you know what you are REALLY asking for. There is the conscious you asking for abundance … and there is the sub-conscious you believing in lack.

Three – In our pursuit of happiness, we are not persistent nor consistent. What are the overwhelming thoughts we think 30,000 times a day. Is it all … loving and kind and generous and open and willing … gentle and harmonious.

Or – is it more like … darn, hurry up, get out of my way, you’re going to make me late, how mean …. a day full of anxiety and worry and upset and chaos and disappointment.

Remember the cards I told you about a couple of weeks ago. Cards I planted all around the house to remind myself of the Good, Loving, Abundant, Kind, Helpful, beautiful universe I – We live in.

We need more reminders of Good in our Lives … of the Divine Universal Good.

And sometimes I think our understanding of that Divine Good is not complete.

You know … we don’t REALLY GET IT. Or believe IT. Capital IT.

But today I am telling you about IT. Because today I am talking about …

FIRST CAUSE. A little differently, but …?

Knowing of its existence

Knowing how it works

What it does

And how to use it

And those are the first 4 chapters in the Ernest Holmes Science of Mind Text.

They are the root teachings of Ernest Holmes, Joel Goldsmith, Thomas Troward, Lyle, Emerson and I believe Jesus, Buddha and Lao Tsu. All teachers of the One … and our connection to IT.

Einstein said …

“I believe in Spinoza’s God – a God who reveals himself in the orderly harmony of what exists”. “I believe in God, the Creator, the FIRST CAUSE … of everything.”

Ernest Holmes described First Cause as this

“That which is the cause of ALL things. The uncreated from which all creation springs. The cause of all that is manifest on any plane. That which comes first.”

That which comes first. And how does that apply to me. What was I before this!

And if I am not this – Who am I ?

Think about this. If you had an upset this morning or yesterday … and you may have said … darn!

What came before that word?

That feeling that came to you as a result of an experience or a situation that made you say … darn. It was a reaction … an expression that just burst forth … kinda automatically.

You are who you are … based on a compilation of your entire past.

Of millions of experiences, choices and decisions you have made along the way. And they make up who you are.

Here is a visual aide –see this deck of cards. Each time something happened to you since a very early age you have made decisions:

You’re a little clumsy aren’t you / you are very pretty / you can’t sing / you are good at math / you are not artistic / big boys don’t cry / you sure are stubborn / don’t let anyone tell you what to do / change is bad / money doesn’t grow on trees / how you handle anger / how you feel about almost anything / like / love / health / what’s my favorite color / don’t like people taller than me / skinny is bad / big is healthy / swearing is bad / ………………….

All of that makes up who you are … at least who you project out into the world. Some call it the mask you are putting on.

Not Good … Not Bad … just that all of that makes up you.

Now the question is … What are you … Really.

This stack is just words and events … it is not you!

So … what came first.

If you could eliminate from your stack all of the events thrust upon you … ideas that were not yours, but you took on anyway. You know what they are … “my dad always said …”. And when you stop sometimes and examine things like that you can clearly see that you are living someone else’s dreams … or chaos.

If you could eliminate all the angry words and fearful moments … or anything that makes you feel weak or uncertain. Because those are just words and feelings … they are not YOU – either.

Under the fear, under feelings of lack or unworthiness … what’s left???

Those feelings you have sometimes … like the urge to come here. Where do they come from. Who created those. Can you take ownership of those feelings?

You’re getting closer.

I Believe … in the beginning … before all the cards started stacking up … you were one thing.

LOVE ENERGY

The energy that everything is made from. Remember Einstein earlier … “the orderly harmony of what exists.”

To him it was something like … Nature.

The Source of all creation.

The Energy that all things are made from. All trees … all animals … all people … all thoughts.

Everything is of some form of this energy … of this Love Energy. First Cause. From which all things are manifest.

The creative force in this world is Love … is You.

That’s what is under the stack of cards.

And I am going to throw one more idea at you before I end.

Science has proved that we are … in physical form … a bunch of atoms. Some electrons flying around a nucleus. And if enlarged an atom big enough to see it … and you placed the center on a baseball diamond … the electron flying around it would be somewhere outside of the stadium. You could fly a plane between them.

In essence … we are not solid. But we are like a magnetic field. And we can attract other energies like us.

We can create events … situations … people … feelings … thoughts … desires … ideas … lessons … happiness … sadness …and on and on

And if you have a hard time with the word create …

what I mean is that you make it possible for those things to exist in your space.

You attract them like a magnet … they become manifest near you and become real to you.

And you become First Cause.

AND SO THE LESSON BEGINS

Satya News ~ First Cause

January 2, 2014

The problem of philosophy is to unite the Infinite with the finite; to join the abstract with the concrete; to find a meeting place between the Absolute and the relative; to unify with First Cause. The same problem confronts religion and is, indeed, its whole purpose: to unify man with God. This is also true of science, but from a different angle. Science seeks to join causes with effects, and by so doing make practical use of its knowledge. Science is really spiritual, while philosophy leads to true religion. Science is the handmaid of religion and philosophy.”
