Behind all your stories is always your mother’s story.Mitch Albom
Because hers is where yours begin.
I just returned from a reunion with my mother after six years of estrangement. It was a sweet and simple coming together and a light and easy conversation that opened a doorway in my heart. Where it will lead, I do not know. What I do know is we share a story that isn’t over yet.
Mother’s Day is a wonderful celebration for many but for some it is not. Those that have struggled with difficult relationships with their mothers might experience sadness, anger, or confusion on this day.
I found this poem:
From her thighs, she gives you lifeSuzy Kassem
And how you treat she who gives you life
Shows how much you value the life given to you by the Creator.
And from seed to dust
There is ONE soul above all others
That you must always show patience, respect, and trust
And this woman is your mother
This woman whose heart has seen yours,
First before anybody else in the world,
And whose womb had opened the door
For your eyes to experience light and more
Is your very own MOTHER.
So, no matter whether your mother has been cruel,
Manipulative, abusive, mentally sick, or simply childish
How you treat her is the ultimate test.
If she misguides you, forgive her and show her the right way
With simple wisdom, gentleness, and kindness.
I continue the story that I inherited. How does it go? How will it end? It is up to me and how I live my life. And I choose love, appreciation, and kindness.
It has been helpful for me to see my mother through the eyes of compassion, to know that she has always done the best she could, given her past, her stories, and her beliefs.
Whilst unconditional love and forgiveness are typically hallmarks of motherhood, it is not a given. Though it is for those that have journeyed into the heart and found loving without conditions and forgiveness are attributes of the soul.
Let’s honor our soul and activate our divine feminine energy this week by forgiving ourselves and others and unleashing our love to a world that is hungry for it.
May all beings be bathed in wisdom, gentleness, and kindness. May all beings be illumined by love, light, and sweetness.
